Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer III to join our engineering team in Lake Mary, FL. The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer III will lead instrumentation and control engineering activities for power generation and industrial projects, providing technical expertise throughout project design, integration, testing, commissioning, and customer support.
The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer III will work closely with clients, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of complex control system projects. This role includes engineering design, design reviews, control system integration support, factory acceptance testing (FAT), commissioning assistance, and customer training.
As a senior-level contributor, the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer III will also provide mentorship to junior engineers, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and serve as a key technical resource for both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate company core competencies, including action orientation, customer focus, ownership, adaptability, and continuous development.
- Lead evaluation and interpretation of customer contract requirements and technical specifications.
- Manage instrumentation scope, schedules, and deliverables for assigned projects.
- Develop and review instrumentation specifications, RFQs, and procurement strategies.
- Provide technical oversight for vendor selection, bid evaluations, and supplier performance.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of P&IDs, instrument indexes, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and design documentation.
- Develop and review datasheets, drawings, and engineering deliverables.
- Support control system integration activities and resolve technical issues throughout project execution.
- Participate in and witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities.
- Provide technical clarification regarding control system procedures, design requirements, and implementation strategies.
- Assist with project installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Act as the primary technical interface with customers, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts related to I&C procedures, standards, and engineering practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support qualification and evaluation of new vendors and suppliers.
- Assist with technical proposals, bid reviews, and business development activities.
- Train customer personnel on control systems and operational best practices.
- Support field issue resolution and ongoing customer success initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6–10+ years of Instrumentation & Controls engineering experience in power generation, industrial manufacturing, or related industries.
- Strong expertise in gas turbine controls and/or balance-of-plant systems.
- Advanced knowledge of distributed control systems (DCS) and control platforms such as: T3000, Ovation, DeltaV, SIMATIC, Mark V / Mark VI
- Extensive experience with SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation) or comparable engineering software.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation design, sizing, specification development, and application.
- Advanced knowledge of I/O architecture, system integration, and plant operations.
- Experience interpreting and applying industry standards such as ISA, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, and AGA.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and project execution skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Travel Requirements
- Willingness to travel approximately 5–10% for project meetings, testing, commissioning, and customer support activities.
