- The Custodian shall report to the Church Administrator for all aspects of the job and shall be subject to the latest revision of the Employment Practices and Policies.
- This is a part-time, hourly position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and buff floors throughout the church, including offices, classrooms, hallways, sanctuary, fellowship spaces, and worship areas.
- Clean and maintain restrooms, kitchens, coffee areas, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Empty trash and recycling and maintain clean interior and exterior areas.
- Prepare the building and classrooms for Sunday worship, Sunday School, and other activities.
- Open the building on Sundays, turn on lights and HVAC, and ensure facilities are ready for worship.
- Prepare and clean coffee areas and equipment as needed.
- Restock cleaning, restroom, and classroom supplies and notify the Church Administrator when supplies are needed.
- Maintain the sanctuary, choir room, classrooms, and worship spaces in preparation for Sunday services.
- Perform basic groundskeeping, including picking up outdoor trash, watering plants, and maintaining bushes and hedges.
- Clean windows, doors, entrances, stairs, and other areas as needed.
- Assist with setup and takedown for church activities and events.
- Perform basic facility maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles and spot-cleaning carpets.
- Strip and wax floors periodically and clean floors following events.
- Open and close the building for weddings, funerals, and other events as assigned.
- Assist staff with storage and facility needs.
- Perform other custodial duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or facilities experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance tasks safely and effectively.
- Ability to operate common cleaning equipment and use cleaning products according to safety guidelines.
- Ability to lift, carry, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and remain on your feet for extended periods as required by the position.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail.
- Ability to manage assigned tasks and follow a regular cleaning schedule.
- Dependable and trustworthy, with respect for the church's facilities, staff, members, and visitors.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the Church Administrator and other staff.
- Willingness to work occasional Sundays, evenings, or special events as needed.
