Position Overview
Our client, a leading building systems integrator serving the Columbus metropolitan area, is seeking an experienced Building Automation Service Technician to support commercial and industrial customers throughout the region.
This role is ideal for a hands-on BAS, DDC, HVAC Controls, or Building Controls Technician who enjoys troubleshooting complex systems, working independently in the field, and helping customers improve building performance, comfort, reliability, and energy efficiency.
The Building Automation Service Technician will perform startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, system optimization, and service support for building automation systems, direct digital controls, HVAC control systems, communication networks, controllers, sensors, actuators, and related building technologies.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform startup, commissioning, functional testing, and service support for Building Automation Systems (BAS), Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, HVAC control systems, and related building technologies.
- Troubleshoot controllers, sensors, actuators, relays, control panels, low-voltage wiring, communication networks, HVAC equipment interfaces, and system performance issues.
- Perform preventative maintenance and system optimization to improve building comfort, reliability, energy efficiency, and overall system operation.
- Modify programming, schedules, graphics, alarms, setpoints, trends, and control sequences as needed to support customer requirements and proper system performance.
- Complete point-to-point checkout, verify input and output operation, test system sequences, confirm device communication, and ensure equipment is operating according to design intent.
- Work with communication protocols and networks such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, BACnet/IP, MS/TP, and IP-based control networks.
- Respond to customer service calls, diagnose system issues, make repairs or adjustments, and resolve problems efficiently while minimizing customer downtime.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Maintain accurate electronic service reports, documentation, work orders, inspection notes, and customer communication records.
- Build positive relationships with customers while following company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and professional field service standards.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with HVAC controls, Building Automation Systems, Direct Digital Controls, or commercial building control systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, mechanical systems, HVAC equipment, and control system operation.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, control diagrams, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently in the field, managing service calls, documenting work accurately, and communicating professionally with customers.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Niagara N4, Tridium, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Automated Logic, Alerton, Distech, Delta Controls, or similar BAS platforms.
- Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP, TCP/IP networking, IP addressing, and commercial building communication networks.
- Trade school, vocational training, military technical training, HVAC training, electrical training, controls training, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
- Experience with commercial HVAC service, mechanical systems, commissioning, system integration, energy management, or smart building technology.
