Job Description:
As the Managing Editor you will be responsible for providing scientific guidance to our team of volunteer and freelance editors, leading the journal’s research integrity investigations, and overseeing special issues. As part of the editorial team, you will work with the Editor-in-Chief and Director of Publishing to guide and manage the editorial direction and quality of the journal. You will serve as a key link between the Director of Publishing and Editorial Operations Supervisors as you become an expert on various aspects of the Cureus platform. Cureus aims to improve the lives of clinicians and researchers by streamlining the academic publishing process - if you want to devise and deliver high-quality solutions that help to change the publishing status quo, then we want you!
Key Responsibilities:
- Becoming an expert on Cureus publishing process to support authors, peer reviewers and editors
- Leading research integrity inquiries by investigating allegations, communicating with relevant parties, making preliminary assessments and recommendations in accordance with ICMJE and COPE guidelines
- Overseeing Cureus Collections, our version of special issues, including reviewing collection proposals and drafts, coordinating with guest editors, and managing ongoing collections
- Directly manage one team member while also working with Director of Publishing to identify issues in process and performance and problem-solve for potential solutions
- Communicating with external and internal stakeholders
- Reviewing medical science articles with regard to “good publishing practice”
- Staying up-to-date in the field of professional medicine as well as the market and competitive situation
- Making well-reasoned editorial decisions in line with expert advice and industry standards
- Partnering with cross-functional, internal teams on a regular basis
- Confidently expressing your ideas to improve & grow the team as we scale
Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in a related field required (MD or PhD preferred)
- Author and peer review experience required
- Experience in academic editing or publishing
- Strong management and leadership skills
- Superb written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multitask and juggle multiple projects
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
