Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Referral Specialist to join our team in North Chicago. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing referrals, coordinating with healthcare providers, and ensuring seamless communication to facilitate patient care. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with medical office experience and a strong understanding of managed care processes to contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional home health services.
Duties
- Manage incoming referrals by verifying patient information and assessing eligibility for services.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers and insurance companies to facilitate timely authorization and approval of services.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation related to referrals, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize medical coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 to accurately document diagnoses and procedures.
- Conduct insurance verification processes to confirm coverage details and communicate benefits or limitations to relevant parties.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to schedule assessments and ensure smooth transition from referral intake to service delivery.
- Maintain organized records of referral activities, follow-up actions, and correspondence for audit purposes.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a medical office setting or healthcare environment, preferably within managed care or home health agencies.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10).
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Experience with insurance verification processes and understanding of managed care systems.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous dental office experience is considered a plus but not mandatory.
- Effective communication skills to liaise confidently with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
