Capital Tax Recovery provides tax compliance services to Connecticut municipalities, helping ensure that taxable property is properly identified, reported, and assessed in accordance with state and local guidelines.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Private Investigator to conduct investigations in support of our contracts with several Connecticut municipalities. The successful candidate will investigate taxpayer complaints, identify motor vehicles that are improperly registered, and locate other taxable personal property to assist municipalities in maintaining fair and accurate tax rolls.
Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Connecticut (Field-Based)
Schedule: Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations related to taxpayer complaints and municipal tax compliance.
- Identify and investigate improperly registered motor vehicles.
- Investigate ownership, location, and use of taxable personal property.
- Conduct surveillance and field observations as necessary.
- Gather, document, and analyze information from various public and private sources.
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing investigative findings.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Work independently while managing multiple assignments and deadlines.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant investigative experience.
- Strong research, observation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Clean criminal background record.
- Ability to successfully pass the Connecticut Private Investigator licensing/background screening requirements administered by the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP).
- Reliable transportation.
- Proficiency with computers, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
- Experience in municipal, tax compliance, insurance, fraud, or related investigations.
- Knowledge of Connecticut municipalities and property taxation practices.
Work Environment
This position requires a flexible schedule. Investigative activities frequently occur outside of normal business hours and may require:
- Early morning surveillance
- Evening and nighttime investigations
- Weekend assignments
