Walsh Door + Security is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at our Des Moines location.
This role provides hands-on technical leadership across manufacturing operations, with a primary focus on
continuous production improvement, preventive maintenance support, and the application of strong engineering
principles in a lean, evolving manufacturing environment.
Walsh Door & Security specializes in commercial doors, frames, hardware, cameras, and access control
systems, supporting projects throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Founded over 160 years ago, we are a
rapidly growing organization with 200+ employees across three locations (Des Moines, Iowa City, and Kansas
City).
Position Summary:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is a senior-level individual contributor who enjoys solving complex
production challenges, working closely with operations and leadership, and helping establish engineering and
operational best practices as the organization continues to grow. This role is highly hands-on and shop-floor
focused. CAD skills may be used to support fixture and tooling solutions but are not the primary focus of the
role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across manufacturing operations, driving continuous
improvement and operational excellence
- When required, specify, develop and implement “new to Walsh” processes and technologies to solve
business / customer needs.
- Optimize manufacturing processes, workflows, and equipment layouts to improve safety, quality, and
throughput
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve production issues and implement
sustainable corrective actions
- Lead and manage engineering and capital projects, including scope, schedule, budget, milestones, and
value realization
- Design and implement fixtures, tooling, and manufacturing aids using CAD software (including
Autodesk Inventor), as needed
- Support preventive maintenance and equipment reliability through engineering analysis,
standardization, and improvements
- Coordinate with vendors on equipment specifications, purchasing, installation, and service support
- Develop standard work, train operators and supervisors, and maintain manufacturing documentation
and engineering standards
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a
closely related field
- 10+ years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience
- Demonstrated senior-level technical leadership in manufacturing environments
- Strong problem-solving, project management, and communication skills
