About Beacon Kalamazoo
Beacon Kalamazoo provides 24/7 emergency care and a Level II Trauma Center. We deliver care for serious life-threatening injuries/illnesses, and your everyday health needs, including labor and delivery. We offer specialty care for heart/vascular disease, lung and sleep disorders, mental health conditions, and women’s health. What You’ll Do
As a Specialty Registered Nurse, you will report to the Practice Manager (BMG). Under general supervision, provides nursing care and performs nursing procedures specific to the specialty practice in support of medical care as directed by the physician. Prepares patients for examinations, records patients' medical histories and symptoms, performs diagnostic tests, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications. May assist a physician in minor surgery and with patient follow-up. Completes laboratory duties as necessary. Routinely communicates with patients and physicians in a professional and courteous manner.
Specialty Registered Nurse (RN) Job Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing support in a physician practice setting, including patient assessment, vital signs, medication administration, specimen collection, and routine testing.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, assisting physicians during specialty and diagnostic treatments as needed.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as EKGs, stress tests, IV therapy, and other specialty-specific clinical services.
- Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, test results, and physician instructions to promote continuity of care.
- Coordinate patient care by managing referrals, prescription requests, insurance authorizations, and communication with pharmacies and ancillary departments.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record, including patient encounters, test results, phone communications, and care recommendations.
- Monitor patient flow and prioritize care to ensure efficient operations and timely attention to urgent patient needs.
- Assist physicians with specialty procedures, patient monitoring, and treatment administration while observing and documenting patient responses.
- Support clinical operations through chart audits, workflow monitoring, and oversight of back-office staff activities.
- Maintain exam room readiness by cleaning and sterilizing equipment, managing medical supplies, and ensuring compliance with infection control and OSHA guidelines.
- Perform medication inventory management, emergency cart inspections, and controlled substance audits as assigned.
- Respond to patient inquiries, answer phones, relay messages, and provide administrative support to facilitate quality patient care.
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate treatment plans and address patient care needs.
- Prepare reports, complete special projects, and perform additional duties as assigned to support department objectives.
- Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education while adhering to organizational policies, regulatory standards, and patient safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a nursing program from an accredited school of nursing.
- A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience is preferred.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required and must be maintained.
- Certification in CPR is required and must be maintained.

Candidates must be competent in conscious sedation and possess advanced skills in peripheral IV access, including insertion, monitoring, and management. The ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations while providing compassionate patient care is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively interact with patients, physicians, visitors, and other healthcare professionals. The position also requires exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships, and a commitment to supporting organizational goals. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, documentation, and computer skills, along with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
