NMI Industrial Holdings of Sacramento is seeking an experienced Steel Detailing Checker/Outsource Detailing Coordinator to become a member of their in-house design team.
NMI is an Industrial Contractor that specializes in structural steel, misc. metals, stainless pools, conveyor systems, and various mechanical projects. Many projects are highly custom and require project team members with exceptional creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Detailing Checker Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years steel detailing/checking experience, 5+ years preferred
- Knowledge of relevant design codes and requirements
- Ability to read/interpret design drawings and specs
- Experience in industrial steel construction is a plus
- Experience in welding/fabrication is a plus
- Must have excellent communication skills
- Must be comfortable in a meeting environment
Duties and Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be actively working with the Design Department and outside Detailing Firms on the following tasks:
- Check detailed shop drawings for conformance with contract documents, including scope, specs, architectural and structural design drawings, RFIs, sketches, etc.
- Ensure shop drawings contain enough detail for smooth fabrication and erection
- Verify material, hardware, assembly lists, NC files, etc.
- Ensure industry standards, applicable codes, and NMI detailing standards are followed
- Check for constructability, ease of installation, and cost-effective use of labor materials
- Participate in the development and documentation of department standards
- Coordinate with outsourced detailing firms to ensure drawings are completed on time and accurately
- Communicate with outsourced detailing managers to maintain schedules and resolve RFIs
- Arrange and participate in coordination meetings with the architect/GC/owner/outsourced resources
Physical Demands:
- The position will require the occasional physical ability to climb, and function in elevation changes by means of self-propulsion to include ladders, scaffolding, stairs, etc.
- Ability to negotiate construction work areas in a safe manner and behavior.
- Performing the duties, the employee will regularly be in an active onsite construction environment where they will be exposed to moving mechanical components & equipment.
