Hi, I'm Derek, owner of Rail & Road Auctions.
We're a small, growing auction company in Lafayette that specializes in railroad, automotive, aviation, and nautical collectibles. Every month, thousands of unique historical items come through our doors, and we're looking for another dependable team member to help keep everything moving.
Because our business follows a monthly auction cycle, our schedule isn't the same every week—and that's intentional. Shipping weeks are naturally busier, while other weeks are spent receiving collections, organizing the warehouse, photographing books, and preparing for the next auction. We do our best to work around appointments, family commitments, and other responsibilities whenever possible. If you're looking for flexibility instead of a rigid Monday through Friday schedule, we think you'll appreciate how we operate.
I'll be upfront—this isn't a typical warehouse job.
Some days you'll be carefully packing a $2,000 railroad lantern for shipment. Other days you'll be unpacking a newly arrived collection, organizing warehouse space, or photographing antique books for an upcoming auction.

What You'll Be Doing
Depending on where we are in our monthly auction cycle, your day may include:
Packing sold collectibles for shipment.
Receiving and unpacking newly arrived collections.
Organizing warehouse inventory.
Moving collections between departments.
Photographing books and other auction items.
Helping load and unload incoming collections.
Keeping the warehouse clean, organized, and efficient.
Helping our small team wherever an extra set of hands is needed.
You'll work closely with every department in the company and become an important part of keeping our auctions running smoothly.

Physical Requirements
This is an active warehouse position.
Applicants should be comfortable:
Regularly lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds.
Moving boxes and collections throughout the warehouse.
Standing, bending, walking, and lifting throughout the day.
Loading and unloading incoming collections.
Many of the collections we receive are large, heavy, and awkward to move. A big part of this position is helping us safely move those collections through our building.
Experience
Experience is always appreciated, but we can teach shipping, photography, and our software.
What we can't teach is reliability, common sense, and taking pride in your work.
Experience in any of these areas is a plus:
Shipping and packing.
Warehouse work.
Inventory management.
Product photography.
Forklift or pallet jack operation.
