Job Overview
ADEPT Technologies is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to develop, optimize, and support machining programs for precision aerospace, defense, and commercial work. This position programs and supports advanced CNC milling centers and lathes, including Mazak equipment and large-format, multi-axis Integrex-class machines. The successful candidate will bring deep machining knowledge, strong shop-floor judgment, and a required positive, can-do attitude to a progressive, state-of-the-art manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, prove out, revise, and optimize CNC programs for 3-, 4-, and 5-axis mills, turning centers, mill-turn equipment, and complex multi-axis machining of materials ranging from exotic to mild steel.
- Program Mazak machining centers and lathes using Mazatrol and applicable G-code/EIA programming methods.
- Use CAM platforms such as Surfcam, ESPRIT/ESPRIT EDGE (Hexagon), and other company-supported programming and simulation tools.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, models, specifications, tolerances, materials, and customer requirements to establish sound manufacturing methods.
- Select tooling, workholding, cutting parameters, machining sequences, setups, feeds/speeds, and toolpaths for quality, repeatability, cycle time, and tool life.
- Perform simulation, verification, prove-out, troubleshooting, and program correction while working closely with machinists, setup personnel, Quality, and Engineering.
- Lead programming efforts for complex parts and assemblies and coordinate or assist junior programmers as assigned.
- Drive continuous improvement through reduced setup and cycle time, improved process capability, standardization, automation, and effective use of modern equipment.
- Work collaboratively with all shop personnel and consult with fabrication and other manufacturing functions on manufacturability, sequencing, tooling, and process solutions.
- Support Business Development and Quoting with manufacturing approach, estimated setup/run times, tooling requirements, technical risk, and general machining input as required.
Skills/ Knowledge
- Advanced practical knowledge of machining, cutting tools, fixturing, workholding, materials, GD&T, inspection considerations, and CNC machine capabilities.
- Strong knowledge of Mazak controls and Mazatrol; proficiency with one or more advanced CAM systems such as Surfcam, Mastercam, or ESPRIT strongly preferred.
- Ability to solve difficult manufacturing problems, balance quality and productivity, and translate complex requirements into executable shop processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to mentor less-experienced programmers while working effectively with machinists, fabrication, Quality, Engineering, Operations, and leadership.
- Progressive mindset toward new technology, automation, process improvement, and state-of-the-art manufacturing methods. A positive can-do attitude is required.
Experience / Education:
Experience: Five (5)+ years of CNC programming and precision machining experience preferred, with demonstrated experience programming CNC mills and lathes. Multi-axis and mill-turn/Integrex experience is highly desirable. Aerospace, defense, prototype, or complex low-to-medium-volume manufacturing experience is preferred. Technical/trade-school training, apprenticeship, associate degree, or equivalent demonstrated experience may be considered.
