A Pediatric Long-Term Care Facility in Brooklyn is seeking an experienced and creative Recreation Director / Activities Director to lead and oversee all recreational, therapeutic, and activity programming for pediatric residents.
This leadership role is responsible for developing engaging programs that support the physical, emotional, social, and developmental needs of children with complex medical conditions. The ideal candidate will be passionate about improving quality of life through meaningful recreational and therapeutic activities.
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive recreation and activities program for pediatric residents
- Create age-appropriate therapeutic, educational, social, and recreational activities
- Supervise and support recreation and activities staff
- Coordinate special events, holiday programs, outings, and family-centered activities
- Work closely with nursing, rehabilitation, social services, education, and clinical teams to support resident goals
- Assess residents' recreational interests, abilities, and needs
- Ensure activities promote socialization, engagement, developmental growth, and emotional well-being
- Maintain compliance with state, federal, and facility regulations
- Manage departmental budgets, supplies, and scheduling
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and resident assessments
- Foster strong relationships with residents and their families
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification required
- Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Recreational Services, or a related field
- Previous experience leading recreation or activities programs in a pediatric healthcare, rehabilitation, long-term care, or special needs setting preferred
- Strong understanding of child development and therapeutic recreation principles
- Experience supervising staff and managing programs
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Passion for working with children and supporting family-centered care
