Position Overview:
This full-time, multi-faceted World Science Scholars (WSS) Program Engagement Lead position offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-moving, non-profit organization that creates high profile, innovative science programming through live, digital, educational, theatrical and media productions. The ideal candidate is a motivated, perceptive, energetic and articulate multi-tasker with outstanding writing, verbal and organizational skills. The WSS Program Engagement Lead will manage the day-to-day administrative needs of the education office and will frequently serve as a point of contact for internal and external constituencies including world-renowned scientists among others.
This is an in-office position at WSF’s New York office five days a week.
Weekly schedule: 9:30am-5:30pm

World Science U (WSU) is the online education arm of WSF, where students and lifelong learners can dive more deeply through creatively produced digital education content presented by world-renowned scientists. WSU also oversees the World Science Scholars (WSS) program that selects a small group of high school students from across the world who have demonstrated extraordinary mathematical talent and provides them with an unparalleled opportunity to apply their abilities to unexplored disciplines. Guided by world-renowned experts, Scholars examine ways that advanced mathematics skills can be applied to solve complex challenges in a wide range of scientific fields.
Key Responsibilities:
Scope of Work includes, without limitation, the areas below:
Synchronous programming
- Lead the beginning-of-year orientation session
- Hold 4-6 recitations per course across varying times throughout the academic year (schedule with Teaching Fellows, send Zoom information and reminders, monitor attendance)
- Facilitate live faculty Q&A for each course via Zoom (schedule with faculty, send Zoom information and reminders, monitor attendance)
- Run group office hours and one-on-one office hours as needed
- Hold alumni and current cohort 'community hangouts'
- Lead end-of-year celebration
Communications
- Write scholar-facing communications, including course announcements, wrap-up emails, reminders, and cohort newsletters
- Monitor [email protected] inbox
- Moderate WSS Discord
- Monitor WSS LinkedIn page; promote program during recruitment; share opportunities; share scholar/alumni achievements
- Check in directly with scholars based on course progress and attendance data from Operations
- Distribute surveys and certificates produced by Operations
- Recruitment outreach to teachers, schools, recruitment partners, and alumni network
- Surface alumni achievements to Operations for database tracking
- Track meaningful scholar anecdotes; forward relevant material to Operations or Development as requested
Other
- Prepare Teaching Fellows to run recitations; check the learning platform weekly and nudge them to respond to scholar questions when threads stall
- Set up information calls with potential recruitment partners about the program, as needed
- Maintain alumni relationships across community channels
- Read applications for future cohorts of World Science Scholars and evaluate per the WSS evaluation rubric
- Other responsibilities as needed
Additional Information:

The Successful Candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree required, Masters advantageous
- 1 - 2 years administrative experience working in fast-paced office environment, preferably in higher education
- Ability to work with discretion regarding confidential matters
- Excellent writing, proofreading, project-management and research skills
- Acute time-management, keen attention to detail, superior organizational skills, ability to multitask and take initiative
- Ability to self-start and excel in a high-pressure environment
- Participates in special projects and efforts to improve unit effectiveness
- Proficiency in a variety of software and online platforms, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, Google Drive, Mac and PC products
- Professional maturity, strong interpersonal and group skills, and a sense of humor
- Understanding of appropriate conduct when engaging with high-level participants, donors, guests, and others
- Knowledge of online education a plus
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $60,000 annually, depending upon experience. WSF offers a comprehensive package of benefits.
