Job OverviewThe Host is the first and final impression of Square Roots. This role sets the tone for the guest experience through gracious welcome, controlled pacing, polished communication, and thoughtful anticipation. The Host manages the flow of the dining room while protecting the standards of a fine dining environment.
The ideal candidate is calm, organized, articulate, and deeply aware of how small gestures shape a guest’s entire evening.
Core Responsibilities
- Welcome every guest with warmth, professionalism, and confidence.
- Manage reservations, walk-ins, waitlists, seating charts, and guest notes.
- Control pacing by communicating clearly with servers, management, and the kitchen.
- Recognize special occasions, VIPs, allergies, accessibility needs, and timing concerns.
- Maintain the entryway, host stand, menus, coat area, and guest-facing first impression.
- Communicate delays with honesty, grace, and solutions.
- Escort guests to tables with polish and awareness of the room.
- Support final guest touchpoints, including farewell, coat retrieval, and sincere thanks.
- Model calm and professional behavior for youth trainees and newer staff.
- Protect the tone of the restaurant: refined, composed, welcoming, and intentional.
Fine Dining Standards
- Uses guest names when available.
- Never points guests vaguely; escorts and guides.
- Notices body language, confusion, waiting time, and guest comfort.
- Keeps the door, entry, and host stand clean and controlled.
- Communicates in complete, polished sentences.
- Maintains composure during delays, large parties, or high-pressure moments.
Qualifications
- Restaurant, hospitality, retail, or guest-facing experience preferred.
- Strong communication and organization skills.
- Comfortable using reservation platforms and managing a floor plan.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to remain calm, warm, and professional under pressure.
- Interest in nonprofit hospitality, mentorship, and youth development preferred.

Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour
