JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Building Laborer is directly supervised by the Plumbing/Laborer Foreman and is responsible for supporting District trades and plant operations by performing skilled and semi-skilled laboring tasks for maintenance, repairs, and small projects across facilities and grounds.

WORK MONTHS
12-months (year-round).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Follow District safety policies and OSHA requirements; use PPE and safe work practices at all times.
· Execute both corrective and preventative maintenance; document actions and results.
· Receive, document, and complete work orders in the District-designated maintenance work order & asset management system (CMMS) within target response and completion times; add notes, labor, and materials.
· Coordinate with foremen, other trades, school staff, and vendors to plan and sequence work with minimal disruption to instruction.
· Respond to urgent/emergent issues and after-hours call-outs as assigned; stabilize, secure, and communicate status.
· Operate District vehicles, tools, and equipment safely; maintain assigned tools and shop areas.
Trade-Specific:
· Perform excavation, trenching, shoring, and backfilling to support plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and other trades.
· Handle excavated material ("spoil") by safely stockpiling, segregating, reusing, or disposing at designated locations; backfill in lifts and compact to required density using appropriate equipment.
· Break, cut, and remove concrete, asphalt, and masonry; perform saw cutting, coring, and jackhammer operations; assist with patching and finishing.
· Mix and stage materials (e.g., mortar/plaster); set and grout block; repair ceramic/marble/stone.
· Re-grout pools; repair pool decks and accessories; assist with seasonal preparation and closures.
· Move, load/unload, and stage equipment/materials; maintain clean, safe jobsites.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
High school diploma or GED.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED
- Valid driver’s license; insurable under District policy.
Maintain valid Act 34/114/151 clearances; renew every five (5) years; employee-paid.

Varies (prior experience supporting licensed trades in commercial/educational environments preferred)

· Effective communication skills with both building staff (e.g., custodians, teachers) and administrative staff (e.g., foremen, principals, directors)

• Eight-hour workday; assignment to a second shift may occur based on operational needs; a shift premium applies when assigned.
• Overtime and holiday work per the CBA; schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on District needs.
• Fast-paced environment with shifting priorities; work may occur at heights, in trenches, in varied weather, and in active school settings.
• Use the District-designated maintenance work order & asset management system (CMMS) for all work documentation.
• Frequent stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, climbing, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
• Frequently lift/move at least 50 pounds; close vision and the ability to adjust focus are required.
