Preferred teaching assignments include Biology and Chemistry, although assignments may vary based on school needs and candidate qualifications.The successful candidate will deliver engaging, standards-based science instruction using the school's Core Knowledge curriculum and instructional philosophy. High school teaching assignments may also include courses within Mystic Valley's internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.This position reports to the Science Department Chair.Essential ResponsibilitiesTeach science courses in Grades 712 in accordance with the documented Core Knowledge curriculum and, when applicable, the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.Plan and deliver engaging lessons with clearly defined learning objectives.Teach up to five daily classes within the assigned course load.Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments, maintaining accurate records and preparing progress reports and report cards.Administer standardized assessments as directed by the Science Department Chair and Leadership Team.Collaborate regularly with the Science Department Chair and colleagues on curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and instructional best practices.Implement Mystic Valley's classroom management and assertive discipline model with consistency and fidelity.Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other required school activities.Perform additional duties as assigned by the Science Department Chair or Assistant Director.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, or a closely related field required.Strong oral and written communication skills.Excellent organizational, instructional, and classroom management skills.Ability to analyze student performance data and use findings to improve instruction.Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the school community.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.Knowledge of science content, instructional best practices, and applicable educational laws and procedures.Ability to plan and implement lessons that meet school objectives while addressing the diverse needs of students.Experience assessing student performance and communicating progress effectively.Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL examinations within one year of employment.U.S. work authorization required.AppointmentThis is a full-time annual appointment reporting to the Science Department Chair.
