An Astoria-based full service General Contracting and Construction Management firm is looking to hire a full-time experienced vehicle and construction equipment mechanic for our staff.
Our vehicle and equipment fleet includes a wide range of equipment including pickup trucks, flat beds, trailer, bobcats, excavators, compressors. We also keep a wide range of smaller construction tools which we expect to be repaired and maintained.
The mechanic will also be required to develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance schedule designed to prolong equipment life and minimize downtime.
QUALIFICATIONS

Clean driving record

Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the construction industry. Complete understanding of all aspects of heavy equipment repairs and rebuild process.

Ability to operate equipment for repair purposes

Strong people skills. Able to communicate effectively with clients and others

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Must be able to follow all safety requirements

Must be able to work easily and skillfully with hands; Stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to reach hard to get at work areas; use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects
RESPONSIBILITIES
Day to day preventative and general maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment/vehicles, a few examples are:

Responsible for inspection, repairs, and performing an operational and pre-ship check on all units prior to shipment to job sites.

Examine equipment/vehicles and parts for damage or excessive wear, and replace those parts as needed.

Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.

On call / on-site repairs and maintenance at construction jobsite locations

Responsible for completing daily activity work orders and accurately completing all paperwork as required.

Keep a maintenance log with details of the condition of the vehicles and equipment along with the costs to repair and maintain

Responsible for inventory control regarding completing material requisitions, follow-up on arrival dates, returning unused parts to vendors as well as doing an actual physical count of the inventory.

Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization

Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager and President (i.e.: pickup/deliver important documents, setup conference room).

Accurately record the number of hours of all repairs and maintenance performed on equipment and vehicles in a timely manner
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma required
-
2 – 3 years’ experience as Diesel Mechanic
