Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to individuals receiving treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders in American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Level 3.5 Residential and ASAM Level 3.7 Medically Monitored Intensive Inpatient programs. The LPN delivers care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or licensed provider in accordance with ASAM criteria, Department of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
● Provide direct nursing care and monitor patients’ physical and behavioral health status.
● Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and monitor for therapeutic response and adverse reactions.
● Observe, document, and report withdrawal symptoms, behavioral changes, and medical concerns to the RN or provider.
● Assist with admission assessments, vital signs, specimen collection, and health screenings.
● Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
● Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and support individualized treatment plans.
● Provide patient education on medications, wellness, recovery, and relapse prevention.
● Respond appropriately to behavioral health and medical emergencies within the scope of LPN practice.
Qualifications
● Current unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPNN) license in Delaware or a current, unrestricted, compact LPN license from a participating state.
● Current BLS/CPR certification.
● Behavioral health, psychiatric, addiction medicine, or substance use treatment experience preferred.
● Knowledge of ASAM criteria, DSAMH standards, medication administration, and trauma-informed care preferred.
● Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
● Ability to provide direct patient care in a residential/inpatient behavioral health environment.
● Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist with patient care activities as required.
● Ability to respond quickly to medical and behavioral emergencies.
● Ability to work in a structured environment with patients who may demonstrate emotional distress, impaired judgement, agitation, or behavioral dysregulation.
● Ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, or on-call responsibilities as applicable.
