The Weekend Animal Caregiver is a vital member of the HSJC team, helping care for animals from intake through adoption. Weekend shifts are the primary need for this position, with opportunities for additional weekday hours as available. This part-time role averages 8-16 hours per week, depending on staffing needs and availability.

Duties
- Provide attentive pet care, including feeding, administering medication, and maintaining hygiene standards
- Engage pets in exercise routines such as dog walking, playtime, and outdoor activities to promote health and happiness
- Assist with training activities like dog training exercises or reinforcing good behavior
- Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques during grooming, veterinary procedures, or routine checks
- Monitor animals’ behavior closely to identify signs of stress or illness and communicate observations to team members or veterinarians
- Support overnight in-home pet sitting or overnight care services when required, ensuring pets are comfortable and secure
- Maintain detailed records of each pet’s care routines, behaviors, and any incidents to ensure continuity of care
Skills
- Proven experience with dog handling, pet sitting, or animal care in various settings including kennels or veterinary clinics
- Knowledge of veterinary procedures and experience working with animals in veterinary technician or assistant roles
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and effective training techniques such as dog training methods
- Ability to perform outdoor work comfortably in different weather conditions while exercising animals or cleaning outdoor spaces
- Excellent client communication skills to update pet owners on their pets’ well-being and care routines
- Experience with pet grooming, animal restraint techniques, and heavy lifting required for handling larger animals or equipment
- Demonstrated reliability in providing overnight care and managing multiple animals simultaneously
