Job Summary:
The QC Scientist Level 1 supports production and quality operations by performing microbiological, analytical, and sensory testing on raw materials, in-process, and finished goods. This entry-level role is responsible for executing testing protocols, maintaining documentation, and assisting in the day-to-day activities of the Quality Control lab. The role requires attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and strong organizational skills.
Responsibilities:

Perform chemical, physical, and microbiological testing on ingredients and finished products in accordance with approved procedures and lab standards.

Conduct organoleptic evaluations by comparing product samples to established retains.

Collect samples from production and storage areas following internal protocols.

Generate Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and assist with documentation required for customer and internal use.

Assist in validating production cleaning and sanitation processes.

Participate in environmental monitoring and contamination testing.

Support investigations into quality concerns, operational issues, or customer complaints.

Accurately record test results and maintain compliance with regulatory and internal quality standards.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace.

Collaborate effectively with team members and adapt to changing priorities or schedules.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Associate’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Previous experience in food manufacturing, seasoning/spice production, or a laboratory setting is a plus

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English for documentation and compliance

Basic understanding of lab practices, safety protocols, and good documentation practices

Sensory acuity to detect differences in taste, smell, and appearance of food products

Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-based environment

Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; willingness to learn internal lab systems

Ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks throughout the shift

Occasionally lift and carry up to 25lbs

Tolerate strong odors, spice dust, and varying temperatures (hot and cold environments)

Manual dexterity to handle lab tools and small samples with precision

Ability to hear and respond to alarms, verbal instructions, and team communication

Visual acuity to distinguish product color, texture, and labeling details

May work in noisy or dusty environments at times
