Job Overview
We are currently seeking a highly qualified veterinary assistant to join our team at Animal Hospital of Salinas. General Purpose: To provide support to veterinarians and veterinary staff as directed or required, contributing to the delivery of quality and efficient veterinary services.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology
- Physical capability to lift 50 lbs, stand, sit, or squat for extended periods
- Knowledge of vaccines (administration and education)
- Ability to perform/assist with laboratory sampling (Phlebotomy)
- Understanding of pharmacology (reading, interpreting, and dispensing prescriptions)
- Proficiency in radiology techniques (positioning, VA radiation exam)
- Knowledge of animal behavior
- Knowledge in aseptic technique
- Microsoft Word proficiency (Avimark knowledge is a plus)
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Punctuality, honesty, and reliability are essential
Responsibilities:
- Escorting clients to rooms and taking patients to the treatment area
- Collecting vital signs, obtaining brief patient history, and presenting information to the doctor
- Safely restraining animals during examinations and treatments (utilizing low-stress handling techniques)
- Administering vaccines, medications, and fluids
- Performing generalized treatments
- Providing client education
- Dispensing medications
- Conducting cleaning and general hospital maintenance
- Proper setup/breakdown of workstations
- Assisting in surgical procedures
The compensation for this position is dependent upon experience and includes a benefits package for full time employment.
