Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to safely transport passengers across designated routes. Your primary focus will be ensuring passenger safety, adhering to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations, and providing excellent customer service. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on communities by providing reliable and safe transportation services. MUST have PTO Experience and Scrap Yard Experience also.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vans in accordance with state and local driving laws.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and provide wheelchair assistance as needed.
- Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations to ensure safe operations at all times.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance issues and ensure vehicle readiness.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes, road conditions, and emergency situations using defensive driving techniques and emergency response procedures for transportation.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, including children, seniors, or individuals with special needs, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
- Manage passenger behavior through appropriate behavior management techniques and enforce school or transit policies.
- Perform heavy lifting when necessary for loading or unloading equipment or assisting passengers.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, incidents, and vehicle inspections in writing or digital logs.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of passenger safety protocols.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and state/local commercial driving laws applicable to passenger transportation.
- Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively to traffic changes and emergency situations; familiarity with emergency stop procedures is essential.
- Strong customer service skills with a focus on child care, senior care, or working with individuals with special needs.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to handle passenger discipline professionally.
- Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable; familiarity with school policies and child care standards is beneficial.
- CPR and first aid certification are preferred; knowledge of emergency response procedures enhances passenger safety.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely; physical stamina for long shifts is required.
- Excellent writing skills for completing reports accurately; attention to detail is critical for compliance and safety documentation.
