American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position in Monroe, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency on 12-hour night shifts.

Work in a 14-bed Medical ICU within a 174-bed community hospital designated as a Stroke Center (no trauma designation, non-teaching)

Adult patient population with diagnoses including sepsis, DKA, strokes, CIWA, respiratory/kidney/liver failure, GI bleeds, surgical cases, CHF, and COPD — no cardiothoracic or high-level neuro surgeries

Patient ratio of 1:2–3 depending on staffing

Shift: 12-hour nights, 1900–0700, 36 hours/week

Weekend rotation: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling cycle (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)

No on-call requirements

Schedule requests are accepted but balanced to unit needs; block scheduling is not guaranteed

EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Floating possible to ICU or PCU patients; MedSurg float is within the realm of possibility but not typical; travelers float in rotation with staff

Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand

Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year

Proficiency with Epic EMR required

Skills required: ventilated patients, trachs, chest tubes, critical drip maintenance, central line maintenance, arterial lines, wound care, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, PIV starts, and NG tube insertion/maintenance

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Provide critical care nursing to adult medical ICU patients across a wide range of acute and complex diagnoses
-
Night shift support includes 1 CNA (covering HUC duties), remote triage RN with camera monitoring, virtual Critical Care physician, Charge RN participating in Rapid Response/Code Team, RT 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, and Anesthesia available for central line placements

Daytime resources include a dedicated HUC, PICC Team, and in-house Intensivist

Phlebotomy is available 24/7, though ICU nurses draw their own labs

Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 unit shifts to orient to the hired shift

Holiday coverage expected for 50% of holidays within the contract

Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved

Scrubs: Navy blue required; free parking on-site

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
