Our continued growth has created the need for a SCADA Engineer Manager to join our Leadership Team.
Position Overview
The Engineering Manager directs one of our engineering teams, responsible for programming the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) platform and communications networks that run our customers’ drinking water and wastewater treatment utilities. The SCADA team works across a variety of domains including programming within third-party SCADA software platforms, network design and configuration, reporting database implementation, and user interface (UI) design. Ultimately, this role is responsible for the team that delivers the most visible aspect of our control systems, each plant’s operating screens. To be successful, candidates should have experience managing engineering personnel, significant experience on controls engineering projects, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
The Engineering Manager handles all personnel management and directs teammembers’ project work. The role is responsible for setting and maintaining engineering standards for all SCADA programming and configuration, ensuring efficient, high quality, version-controlled work. The Engineering Manager position is part of the management team and reports directly to the President of the company.
Responsibilities and Duties
Direct SCADA engineers as they:
- Understand project plans, specifications, process and instrumentation diagrams, and network and controls requirements.
- Design and configure communication network infrastructure, including servers, switches, and firewalls.
- Configure and program operator interface screens within SCADA software; common platforms include VTScada, Rockwell’s FactoryTalk ME/SE, Ignition, and Aveva’s Wonderware InTouch.
- Configure and program real-time database applications and reporting tools; integrate remote alarming solutions.
- Manage their project tasks, communicate with their customers.
Act as a high-level resource to identify, escalate, and drive resolution on project issues likely to affect performance.
Manage SCADA engineering team, including hiring, on-boarding, training, mentoring, counseling, and evaluating.
Create, socialize, refine, and champion roadmap for development of the company’s SCADA platform. Incorporate future technologies and integration solutions.
Direct the definition and documentation of SCADA engineering standards to maintain consistent, quality project work.
Assign SCADA engineers to projects and tasks, ensuring appropriate prioritization and engineer-to-task fit.
Develop and maintain ongoing training program for both new and experienced engineers.
Work collaboratively across Sales, Design, and Engineering Teams to ensure successful startup for each project.

- Ten years’ experience in control system programming and integration across a variety of hardware/software platforms.
Professional Qualifications
- Expertise in automation and process controls for water and wastewater utility and other process industries.
- Deep appreciation of customer interaction with software and implications for interface format and design.
- Experience mentoring fellow colleagues and team members on project-based work.
- Advanced communication skills to support oral and written communications with coworkers, customers, construction contractors, consulting engineers, vendors, and other partners.
- Minimum of a four-year degree in relevant technical field and ten years’ experience in control system programming. Additional years’ experience may substitute for formal technical education.
Technical Capabilities
- HMI and SCADA programming experience with VTScada, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, Wonderware/Aveva InTouch, and/or Ignition.
- PLC programming experience with Rockwell Studio5000 (ControlLogix) a benefit.
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Project).
Pay: $120,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
