Position Overview
The Benchmark & Engagement Specialist — Student Engagement & Behavior is responsible for helping students remain engaged, active, and successful in their virtual learning environment. This role works directly with students and families to address attendance concerns, increase participation, monitor academic benchmarks, and respond to student behavior concerns.
The Specialist will serve as a consistent point of contact for families when students are not logging in, participating, completing required work, or meeting academic expectations. This position requires strong communication skills, persistence, organization, and the ability to build positive relationships with students and parents.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Engagement & Attendance
- Monitor student login, attendance, participation, and engagement.
- Identify students who are consistently offline, missing work, or demonstrating low participation.
- Contact parents/guardians by phone to address attendance and engagement concerns.
- Conduct door knocks/home visits when additional outreach is needed.
- Encourage students to log in, attend required sessions, complete assignments, and remain engaged.
- Develop positive relationships with students and families to increase participation.
- Follow up consistently with students who have been identified as disengaged.
Academic Benchmark Support
- Monitor student progress toward academic benchmarks and goals.
- Identify students who are falling behind or not demonstrating expected progress.
- Communicate with students and parents regarding benchmark expectations.
- Help develop and implement student engagement plans.
- Coordinate with teachers and other team members to address barriers to academic progress.
- Track outreach and student progress accurately.
Student Behavior
- Support students who demonstrate behavioral concerns that interfere with learning.
- Address inappropriate or disruptive behavior through appropriate interventions and communication.
- Communicate behavioral concerns with parents/guardians.
- Document interventions, parent contacts, and follow-up actions.
- Work with teachers and school staff to create strategies for improving student behavior and engagement.
- Plan events for students, staff, and the community
Family Outreach
- Make regular phone calls to parents/guardians regarding attendance, engagement, academic progress, and behavior.
- Conduct door knocks when phone/email outreach has been unsuccessful or when additional intervention is needed.
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with families.
- Clearly document all outreach attempts and outcomes.
