Job Summary
The tool room attendant provides support and assistance to department faculty, students and Business and Technology Education Division by organizing, maintaining and repairing shop equipment and tools as well as ordering and stocking lab supplies. The ideal candidate will be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment by assisting students with tool room check-out and independently managing other assigned tasks during periods of low student activity. Additional responsibilities include routine equipment maintenance and repairs, monitoring inventory for tool room and shop supplies, and cleaning and organizing lab space.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and correctly name hand and power tools commonly used in the industry, including their proper, technical, and common names, as well as their appropriate uses.
- Exhibit ability to learn new tools/equipment and their use(s) as they become available in the tool room and shop.
- Utilize problem-solving strategies when troubleshooting broken shop equipment and tools.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and repairs on shop tools and equipment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and use of computers in a business environment.
- Possess strong commitment to customer service across a broad range of stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid, current Class-D driver’s license.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs. required.
- Two years’ mechanical work experience or training in a shop or related environment.
- Ability to identify and maintain shop tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift operation certified
Physical Demands
- Position generally requires moderate physical activity primarily indoors, with occasional lifting of 50 pounds, carrying tools, equipment, manuals and supplies.
- Work performed requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs.
- Employee must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone or during virtual meetings.
