The Opportunity:
The Director of Information Systems leads All Points Broadband's internal IT team to put the right systems, processes, and governance in place to support the company's business goals. APB is in a rebuild-and-modernize phase, and this role steps into an active, multi-year IS roadmap already underway. The mandate is not to keep the lights on — it is to continue advancing the roadmap: revenue systems, the ERP/financial backbone, single-source-of-truth data governance, workflow automation, and operational reporting. The Director converts that roadmap into delivered, measurable progress by building and leading a capable internal team, owning the business-application portfolio, driving process documentation and automation, and maintaining a secure, compliant, and scalable technology environment. The role reports to the CIO/CTO, who owns enterprise technology strategy and board engagement; the Director is the leader who turns that strategy into execution on the ground.
Key Responsibilities:
Roadmap Execution & Team Leadership
-
Lead the in-house IT team to deliver the IS roadmap — translating strategy set with the CIO/CTO into prioritized, resourced, and completed initiatives that support business objectives.
-
Manage the team's daily work to align with quarterly and annual company goals.
-
Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing IT team — rebuilding bench strength and eliminating single-points-of-failure through documentation and cross-training.
-
Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust, scalable IT infrastructure.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, Operations, Construction, Sales/Marketing) to align systems with how the business actually runs.
Business Systems & Applications
-
Own and administer the company's core business-systems portfolio — ERP/financial (e.g., Business Central + procure-to-pay automation), OSS/BSS and subscriber platforms, GIS/address systems, the BI/data platform (e.g., Snowflake), ITSM, and collaboration tooling.
-
The IT team is primarily responsible for tier-1 support and serves as system owner/administrator across departments, working with vendors to resolve escalations on behalf of business units.
AI, Automation & Process Optimization
-
Identify, evaluate, pilot, and operationalize AI and automation opportunities across the business (e.g., revenue/buy-flow optimization, accounts-payable and procure-to-pay automation, service and field-ops automation).
-
Establish responsible-AI practices for IT-owned tools: acceptable-use guidance, data-handling and vendor/NDA standards, and human-in-the-loop controls.
-
Lead end-to-end process documentation, standardization, and continuous optimization — converting tribal knowledge into runbooks and SOPs, and re-engineering manual workflows for efficiency and auditability.
Data Governance & Business Intelligence
-
Establish and enforce single-source-of-truth data governance, including master-data ownership (e.g., address/serviceability data) and data-quality standards.
-
Partner with BI/analytics on KPI definitions, reporting SLAs, and operational/executive dashboards.
Security & Compliance
-
Implement and enforce security policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard company data and systems (identity and privileged-access management, endpoint, network-edge, backup/restore).
-
Ensure IT systems adhere to industry best practices and applicable technical standards.
-
Provide the systems, data, and reporting support that the company's regulatory and legal functions need to meet broadband grant and compliance obligations (e.g., BEAD). Compliance is owned by the company's dedicated regulatory and legal staff; IT's role is to ensure the underlying systems, data quality, and reporting infrastructure support those requirements.
Vendor & Contract Management
-
Manage external vendors and partners to procure and integrate cost-effective technology solutions; negotiate contracts and SLAs and maintain productive vendor relationships.
-
Evaluate vendors on total cost, fit, and long-term partnership value.
Resource Planning & Continuity
-
Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring financial efficiency and alignment with company goals.
-
Identify and prioritize resource needs across IT initiatives.
-
Own disaster-recovery, business-continuity, and data-integrity planning.
-
Other duties as the company/position evolve
Required Skills and Experience:
-
10+ years in an IT leadership role, preferably in telecommunications, fiber, or an ISP, ideally in a high-growth or investor-backed environment.
-
Demonstrated experience delivering technology modernization programs (ERP, data platform, OSS/BSS, or business-process automation), not just sustaining operations.
-
Strong knowledge of IT security and data protection, including implementing and enforcing security controls.
-
Proven people leadership: building, developing, and inspiring IT teams, setting clear objectives, and managing resources in resource-constrained conditions.
-
Strong financial/business acumen — budgets, business cases, and vendor negotiation.
-
Effective, professional written and verbal communication with team members, peers, and department leaders.
-
Experience standing up or maturing data governance, BI, or single-source-of-truth initiatives.
-
Hands-on experience evaluating and implementing AI/automation tools.
-
Strong process documentation and optimization discipline (SOPs, runbooks, workflow re-engineering).
-
Experience providing systems and data support for grant/regulatory reporting (e.g., BEAD) is a plus.
-
Strong vendor management and contract negotiation.
-
Knowledge of SharePoint/Microsoft 365 administration, a plus.
-
Project-management experience (PMP/equivalent or PMO), a plus.
Education:
-
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is required.
