The Veterinary Technician will focus on providing excellent customer service and medical care, while also properly maintaining the facility. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits, including flextime and a 401(k) program, where the successful candidate will gain practical experience working with animals and will help educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
Responsibilities:
- Running the patient/client visit, including getting relevant history from the client
- Assist the veterinarian by performing a variety of laboratory tests.
- Ensure that all surgical patients have have appropriate paperwork signed including estimates, dental exam forms and alert veterinarian if any forms are missing before proceeding
- Assist the veterinarian in surgery and other invasive procedures.
- Clean treatment area and instruments between patients and after surgeries
- Perform routine tests on animals and keep track of results.
- Clean, feed, and take care of animals.
- Keep clean and well-maintained clinic equipment.
- Record information about incoming pets.
- Assist in developing health care plans for patients and going over them with owners
- Educate owners about pet wellness and health
- Fill prescriptions as prescribed by veterinarian
- Educate owners about preventative medications
- Clean and sanitize all exam room surfaces in between appointments
- Assist coworkers as needed taking radiographs, obtaining laboratory samples and preparing samples to be submitted to reference laboratory or run on inhouse machines
- Participate in rotating animal care responsibilities on weekends and holidays
- Ensuring that any hospitalized patients receive treatments as prescribed by attending veterinarian
- Communicate with veterinarian and owner about the status of laboratory samples and test results
- Assist veterinarian in preparing discharge notes to help with client communication
Qualifications
- Proficient in animal handling, including dog handling and restraint techniques
- Proficient skills in animal catheterization and blood sample collection
- Knowledge of pet care practices and animal anatomy
- Familiarity with kennel operations and dental terminology is a plus
- Relevant experience in dog training, pet grooming, and laboratory settings is advantageous
- Experience in excellent customer service and client communication
- Ability to work as part of a team and assist coworkers as needed.
