Position Overview
The Fire House Stove Shoppe is seeking an experienced Merchandising & Store Operations Lead for our Epping showroom.
Merchandising is the primary responsibility of this position. We are looking for someone with the experience, judgment, and initiative to organize, set up, and maintain a professional retail showroom without constant direction or supervision.
The right candidate must understand how to run the day-to-day operations of a retail store, create effective product displays, organize merchandise, maintain accurate pricing, manage inventory, and keep the showroom attractive and easy for customers to navigate.
This position also includes sales, customer service, office work, inventory management, and warehouse coordination. Applicants must be comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for keeping the showroom, office, and merchandise organized.
Some previous experience in the hearth, heating, appliance, home-improvement, building-material, furniture, or specialty retail industry is strongly preferred.
Primary Merchandising and Store Operations Responsibilities
- Independently plan, organize, and maintain the retail showroom.
- Set up and redesign product displays without requiring constant supervision.
- Arrange merchandise in a professional, attractive, and customer-friendly manner.
- Determine effective product placement based on appearance, customer traffic, available space, and sales priorities.
- Create and maintain pricing labels, product signs, promotional materials, and showroom information.
- Keep all merchandise accurately priced and clearly identified.
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked showroom displays.
- Rotate merchandise and update displays based on seasons, promotions, new products, and inventory.
- Identify showroom areas that need improvement and take the initiative to correct them.
- Coordinate the movement of products between the showroom and warehouse.
- Monitor inventory levels and help determine which products need to be reordered.
- Receive, inspect, organize, and properly display incoming merchandise.
- Keep customer orders, warehouse stock, floor models, and display products clearly separated and organized.
- Help establish and maintain procedures for merchandising, inventory, product receiving, and showroom organization.
- Take responsibility for the overall professional appearance and functionality of the retail store.
Sales and Customer-Service Responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide professional, friendly service.
- Help customers select fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, inserts, gas appliances, heating products, and related accessories.
- Explain product features, benefits, available options, and basic installation requirements.
- Prepare accurate quotes, sales orders, invoices, and supporting documentation.
- Process payments and operate the point-of-sale system accurately.
- Follow up with customers regarding quotes, product availability, orders, installations, service, and scheduling.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and respond professionally to customer inquiries.
- Assist with returns, exchanges, warranty paperwork, and customer-service concerns.
- Help guide each sale from the initial showroom visit through ordering, delivery, and installation.
Office and Administrative Responsibilities
- Enter and maintain accurate customer, sales, inventory, and product information.
- Use QuickBooks for invoicing, payments, customer records, sales orders, and basic account functions.
- Use Microsoft 365, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and related programs.
- Create and maintain spreadsheets, reports, customer records, pricing documents, and order-tracking information.
- Manage email communications and online customer requests.
- Communicate with manufacturers, distributors, vendors, installers, technicians, and service personnel.
- Maintain organized customer paperwork, product information, vendor records, and sales documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience merchandising and organizing a retail store or showroom.
- Ability to independently set up, organize, and maintain a professional retail environment.
- Experience with day-to-day retail store operations.
- Ability to recognize what needs to be done and complete it without constant supervision.
- Previous sales and customer-service experience.
- Experience with inventory control, warehouse organization, purchasing, product receiving, or vendor communications.
- Experience performing office and administrative work.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to work efficiently with several computer programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks.
- Ability to prepare accurate quotes, invoices, sales orders, and customer paperwork.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional telephone and email etiquette.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple customers, orders, projects, and priorities at the same time.
- Dependable, professional, self-motivated, and capable of working independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the hearth, fireplace, stove, heating, appliance, home-improvement, building-material, furniture, or specialty retail industry.
- Knowledge of fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves, gas appliances, heating equipment, or related products.
- Experience managing or leading operations within a retail store or showroom.
- Experience creating displays, promotional areas, product layouts, and seasonal merchandising plans.
- Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling.
- Familiarity with office telephone systems, computer networking, and office equipment.
- Knowledge of fireplace and stove accessories, installation requirements, venting, and replacement parts.
About the Position
This is not a basic cashier or entry-level sales position.
The primary responsibility is to take ownership of the merchandising, organization, and presentation of our retail showroom. We need someone who already understands how a successful retail store should look and operate and who can make decisions, complete projects, and maintain standards without waiting for detailed instructions.
The right person will be organized, creative, practical, approachable, comfortable with technology, and confident working independently. They must also be willing to assist with sales, customers, office responsibilities, inventory, and warehouse operations as needed.
