Nature Center Aide
The Charter Township of Shelby Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center is now accepting applications for a part-time Nature Center Aide. The schedule for this position would be up to 20 hours a week (Monday-Sunday) between the hours of 10am - 6pm. The Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center is located within our River Bends Park (4101 River Bends Drive, Shelby Township, MI 48317). The beginning wage is $15.39 per hour, no benefits.
Some of the job duties associated with this classification would include, but would not be limited to:

Plan, prepare, and lead programs (guided hikes, school field trips, home school programs, scout badges, and birthday parties).

Greet and assist all visitors and participants in a cordial, informational, and welcoming manner.

Register patrons for programs in recreation software and process any confirmation/cancellation paperwork.

Assist in the booking, scheduling, and set-up/take-down of Nature Center rentals, including field trips, outreaches, room rentals, and birthday parties.

Provide support for special events.

Be willing to work a flexible schedule with some evenings and holidays (for animal care)

Provide daily care for animal ambassadors, including (but not limited to): preparing/distributing animal diets; providing routine husbandry and cleaning of enclosures; and maintaining accurate record keeping and reports.

Provide excellent customer service to all our guests.

Answer/respond to all phone calls and e-mails in a timely manner.

Ensure Nature Center is always clean and presentable.

Performs other duties of this position or related positions as may become necessary or as directed by the Nature Center Coordinator.

Interest in nature, environmental education, or outdoor recreation

Strong communication and customer service skills

Ability to work with diverse audiences, including children and families

Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team
