The Fabrication Shop Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the fabrication shop, ensuring efficient production of tank components in accordance with project specifications, company standards, and applicable codes (API 650, AWWA, ASME, etc.). This role is responsible for supervising shop personnel, maintaining quality, enforcing safety, managing schedule compliance, and coordinating closely with engineering, quality control, and field operations.
Responsibilities included but not limited to:
· Supervise and coordinate activities of fitters, welders, burn table operators, material handlers, and laborers.
· Assign work based on shop schedules and priorities.
· Lead daily start-up meetings and communicate production goals.
· Train and mentor new and existing shop personnel.
· Enforce safety rules, company policies, and quality procedures.
· Review fabrication drawings, cut lists, and travelers prior to issuing work.
· Monitor work progress to ensure adherence to shop schedules and project deadlines.
· Troubleshoot production bottlenecks and take corrective action.
· Coordinate with the Material Control Coordinator to ensure proper delivery and staging of steel, consumables, and parts.
· Ensure all fabricated components meet drawing tolerances, weld procedure specifications (WPS), and hold point inspection requirements.
· Work closely with the QC department to ensure code compliance and complete documentation.
· Perform first-article inspections and in-process checks when needed.
· Identify and document non-conformances, drive corrective actions.
· Track daily time, production quantities, and rework.
· Maintain shop production boards, status reports, and visual controls.
· Support development of travelers and work packages.
· Participate in weekly planning meetings and report shop progress.
· Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, quality, and material handling.
· Implement 5S practices and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
Requirements included but not limited to:
· High school diploma or GED required; technical school or journeyman certification preferred.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in tank fabrication or heavy steel fabrication, with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
· Strong understanding of fabrication prints, welding symbols, and dimensional tolerances.
· Working knowledge of API 650, AWS D1.1, and ASME Section IX.
· Proficient in reading and interpreting fabrication drawings, shop travelers, and BOMs.
· Familiar with MIG, FCAW, SAW, and TIG welding processes.
· Computer skills (MS Office, production tracking systems).
Preferred Qualifications included but not limited to:
· Bilingual (English/Spanish)
· OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification
· Forklift or overhead crane certification
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing or 5S implementation
· Familiarity with ERP or shop scheduling software

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
