Leads crews in performing manual labor work involved with maintaining the grounds at City facilities. Safely and efficiently operates equipment including, but not limited to, tractors, loaders, edgers, a variety of mowers, dump trucks, etc. Washes, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on equipment; checks fluid levels, tire pressure, filters, belts, etc. on assigned equipment. Performs same duties as Maintenance Operators. Assists with training and instructing fellow employees on proper work procedures and safety precautions. Performs duties and responsibilities of supervisor in supervisor’s absence. May be required to maintain schedules and time records of crew members. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, limitations, and safety precautions of grounds maintenance work; and of the tools, equipment, and practices used in performing general labor work.

Ability to operate assigned equipment in a safe and efficient manner; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform labor work under adverse weather conditions; and to lead and instruct crews in proper safety and work procedures.

Physical strength and agility sufficient to operate equipment and perform assigned duties.

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
-
Three years’ experience in grounds maintenance including experience in the operation of related equipment.

Previous experience as a crew leader preferred.
-
An equivalent combination of experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
Special Requirements:
-
Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven.
-
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, i.e., weekends, evenings and holidays as needed and be on call when appropriate and for special events.

Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant’s system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
