Meals on Wheels Coordinator - Worcester County, Maryland
Status: Full-Time, Benefited – 36 hours per week (up to 40 hours as program needs require)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–3:00 PM, with one day 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Position Overview
The Meals on Wheels (MOW) Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the MOW program serving older adults and homebound residents throughout Worcester County. This role manages the full client intake process, maintains accurate client records, and serves as a key point of contact for participants and their families. The Coordinator works closely with the Nutrition Supervisor, Volunteer Coordinator, and kitchen staff to ensure meals are delivered accurately, safely, and on schedule, and is prepared to personally cover delivery routes when driver or volunteer coverage is needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Process new MOW referrals received from Maryland Access Point (MAP) in a timely and organized manner.
- Conduct in-home intake visits with prospective clients to verify MOW eligibility and assess individual needs.
- Maintain and update the company’s CRM database for all MOW clients, ensuring records are complete, accurate, and current.
- Actively communicate with MOW participants and/or their family members by phone or text to confirm service details, address concerns, and provide program updates.
- Learn all MOW delivery routes throughout Worcester County and personally cover routes when staff drivers or volunteers call out.
- Work closely with the Nutrition Supervisor and Volunteer Coordinator on all matters related to the delivery of meals to Worcester County residents.
- Communicate proactively and effectively via internal email and other organizational systems to keep all program stakeholders informed.
- Identify and report changes in client status, needs, or circumstances to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with annual client reassessments and program documentation as required by funding and regulatory sources.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the MOW program and/or Deputy Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or coursework in social work, human services, gerontology, or a related field preferred.
- Prior experience in human services, case management, customer service, or a nutrition/meal delivery program preferred.
- Proficient computer skills, including internal email and database management; ability to learn and maintain the organization’s CRM system.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, routes, and client needs simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately and effectively with older adults, family members, and caregivers.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of client information at all times.
- Valid Maryland driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to safely operate a company delivery vehicle.
- Ability to read maps/GPS navigation and learn delivery routes throughout Worcester County.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Nutrition Supervisor, Volunteer Coordinator, Kitchen Supervisor, and kitchen staff.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to respond flexibly when route coverage is needed on short notice.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Combination of office-based work and field work, including travel throughout Worcester County for intake visits and route coverage.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and transport meal trays and coolers weighing up to 10–45 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, bending, and driving; ability to safely enter and exit a vehicle multiple times per shift when covering routes.
- Exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions while making deliveries or conducting home visits.
- Must successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting rate of $21.93 per hour. This is a fully benefited position scheduled for 36 hours per week, with the possibility of up to 40 hours per week as program demands require. Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with one day scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
