Fitter/Welder — All Levels (I–IV)
Day Shift (6.00am-4.30pm) & Swing Shift (4.30pm -3.30am)

Job Summary:
Petersen is hiring Fitter/Welders at every experience level — from those just starting their career to seasoned professionals ready to run a job from start to finish. Responsibilities scale with experience level, ranging from basic fitting and welding tasks to reading blueprints, fitting and/or overseeing fitting, expediting parts, welding and/or overseeing welding, and taking full ownership of a job to meet customer and schedule requirements.
Essential Functions (scaled by level):
- Level I–II (Entry to Intermediate): Perform basic fitting and welding tasks under supervision; learn to read blueprints and weld symbols; support production goals; work safely and effectively as part of a team.
- Level III (Advanced): Read blueprints independently; complete welding and fitting assignments with minimal supervision; help expedite parts and solve routine production obstacles.
- Level IV (Expert): Read blueprints; supervise a crew and complete a job from start to finish without direct supervision; expedite all parts throughout the plant as necessary to meet production goals; solve all obstacles related to the job being run; take full ownership for meeting customer and schedule requirements.
- All levels: Be a living example of our principles of unity, trust, honesty, integrity, creativity, and self-reliance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (by level):
- All welds must be uniform, clean, and completed to customer specifications, at a standard appropriate to the applicant's level.
- Blueprint test required for Level III and IV applicants:
- Read all weld symbols on a blueprint
- Differentiate between channel, angle, flat bar, square tube, pipe, etc.
- Basic plate weld test (visual and bend), within specified time requirements, required for all applicants — number of processes passed will help determine level placement, in four out of five (Level IV) or fewer (Level I–III) of the following weld processes used at Petersen Inc:
- F.C.A.W. – Stainless and mild steel: 3G and 6G position
- G.M.A.W. – Mild steel: 3G position
- G.T.A.W. – Stainless and aluminum: 3G and 6G position
- S.A.W. – Sub arc: 1G position is a plus but not required
- Knowledge of how to calculate arc length and circumference, bolt circles, chord length, and flat pattern is required for Level III–IV and a plus for Level I–II.
- Must be able to work well in a team environment.
- Able to listen well, understand concerns, and gain cooperation to solve problems quickly and effectively.
- Must be efficient and productive with time.
- Must maintain an acceptable attendance and safety record.
- Maintain a safe environment.
Minimum Requirements:
High School education or GED preferred. Experience requirements vary by level — entry-level candidates with basic welding training or certification are encouraged to apply, while Level IV requires four years of shop or field welding experience. Must be able to understand implicit and explicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflicts, and make effective decisions under pressure. Ability to do math calculations, especially trigonometry, is required at higher levels.
Essential Physical Functions:
Requires lifting, stooping, bending, and stretching to accomplish grinding, welding, and other assigned duties. Requires ability to work at different heights. Requires correctable vision to within normal range to perform clean and uniform welds and read blueprints. Requires standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods of time.
Safety Requirements:
- Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
- Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules, and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
Equipment Used (but not limited to):
Welder, Grinder, Gouge, Drills, Tools.
Travel:
Must be available and willing to travel as the employer determines whether it is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
Working Conditions:
Works in a typical fabrication shop environment. Occasionally called upon to work overtime. Working conditions may vary according to weather. Requires ability to work in heat and cold.
Pay: $24.00 - $40.00 per hour
