Mendocino Railway is a Class III common carrier public utility railroad for passenger and freight service. We own and operate two railroad brands located in California. Our brands offer guests some of the most unique experiences in the railroad and tourism industry—including opportunities to ride the Skunk Train’s open-air car through Mendocino County’s towering redwood and enjoy culinary experiences along the Sacramento River’s farmlands on the River Fox Train.
We have a very unique opportunity for a motivated and self-sufficient Social Media and Video Content Producer to capture our brands’ unique trips. Ideal candidates will be skilled with shooting and editing, creating content that drives social engagement, be willing to travel frequently across our brands in Sacramento and Mendocino County, and be well-connected with relevant cultural and social media trends.
Opportunities + Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute content for video-forward social media platforms—specifically TikTok and YouTube, while supporting Meta content with Reels
- Partner closely with Mendocino Railway’s Marketing and PR team members to concept and execute social media video content ranging from short-form, long-form informational, and occasional advertising content for cable, CTV, OTA
- Produce content that is safe and effective for our brands; requires an ability to understand brand guidelines and requirements for each of our brands; recommend content that is appropriate for each brand and helps us drive more awareness and engagement with audiences
- Capture raw footage and produce several finished videos per month; post Stories in real-time, and execute recap videos same-day, as appropriate
- Spend at least one weekend per month shooting Skunk Train content (Fort Bragg and Willits) and at least one weekend per month shooting River Fox Train content (West Sacramento
- Collaborate effectively and as needed with each brand’s General Management and operations teams to avoid disrupting guest service or day-to-day operations
- Support photo shoots, sponsored community events, or other special Marketing team activities as needed; other duties as assigned
Qualifications + Education Preferences
- Interested candidates must submit a resume AND either a link to portfolio, sizzle reel, or other work samples that best demonstrate your ability to create and execute concepts, from idea, to production/shooting, to editing; likewise, candidates must have experience shooting, editing, and producing professional video content, as well knowledge about social media platform management and trends
- Final candidates will be invited to shoot at one of the locations and expected to produce content based on a brief from the Mendocino Railway Marketing team
- No educational requirements, but graduates of video, content, or advertising programs welcomed
- Candidates with drone operator certification are encouraged to apply
Location + Additional Notes
- Mendocino Railway will provide a PC gaming laptop for editorial needs. Candidates are expected to have some basic equipment of their own—at a minimum, a 4k-capable DSLR camera and an iPhone or Android device capable of capturing high-quality content. Mendocino Railway provide other resources for the right candidate.
- Candidates must have access to a reliable personal vehicle.
- Travel expenses reimbursed. However, to reduce travel expenses for the company, we would prefer that this role be based in either Fort Bragg or West Sacramento. Company housing may be available in Fort Bragg.
- Mendocino Railway requires a pre-employment drug screen and background check prior to hiring.
- Employment will be on a part-time basis at an expected 20 to 30 hours per week.
Important: this role requires weekend work. Most of our experiences are busiest over weekends. Our preferred schedule for this role would be Wednesday through Friday, plus a weekend day per week. Weekend day can flex based on shooting or editing needs.
