The primary role of the NAECC Student Outreach Assistant position is to assist with outreach events, serve as first point of contact and welcome students, alumni, faculty, staff, and visitors and provide general office support at the NAECC. The goal of this position is to give students valuable real-world experience in a student services environment. This position should work approximately 12-15 hours per week during the current semester. Those hours may be worked in any combination, at the discretion of the direct supervisor. The Student Outreach Assistant position must be reliable, organized, responsible, and flexible. They must also be ambitious, detail-oriented, creative, and driven.
Prerequisite(s)
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in customer service, marketing and promotion, and general office skills. General knowledge of Native American cultures is preferred.
Qualifications & Responsibilities
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of one semester of college coursework successfully completed
Must be actively enrolled at Purdue University, Purdue Global
Previous experience in public speaking (preferred)
Previous experience with campus and community outreach (preferred)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
Flexible and dependable with a strong attention to detail
Problem solving, logic and reasoning skills
Customer service oriented
Ability to multi-task, work within deadlines and the ability to work independently and with a team
Be timely and organized
Position Responsibilities
Represent the NAECC at campus outreach events and answer general questions
General knowledge of office duties and use of equipment
Maintain high standard of cleanliness throughout the facility
Maintain safety and risk management standards of the department
Perform daily upkeep of supplies throughout the facility
Exhibit friendliness, diplomacy, and tact in responding to customers
Handle emergency situations and prioritize responsibilities while continuing to provide the highest level of customer service
Maintain confidentiality and exhibit professional conduct when handling sensitive information
Serve and participate on committees within the division to provide feedback from a student lens
Present ideas to division senior leadership as identified
Responsible for all scheduled shifts (based on class/exam schedules for the semester)
Must attend all scheduled staff meetings to gain and/or share pertinent information
Other duties as assigned
