Job Description
Impact Central Florida is seeking dependable, compassionate, and professional Personal Care Assistants (PCA), Nursing Assistants (NA), and Home Health Aides (HHA) to provide direct care and support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential group home setting.
The ideal candidate will be patient, reliable, safety-focused, and committed to promoting each resident’s independence, dignity, choice, and quality of life.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Assist with bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, toileting, and personal care.
- Assist residents with dressing and appropriate clothing selection.
- Assist with feeding and meal support, including following prescribed dietary or mealtime instructions.
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks as assigned.
- Provide medication assistance/administration only as permitted by Florida APD requirements, the employee’s completed training, and the resident’s medication orders/support plan.
- Accurately complete medication documentation when assigned and authorized.
- Provide supervision and support to maintain resident health and safety.
- Assist residents with mobility, transfers, positioning, and other physical support as appropriate to the resident’s needs and staff training.
- Support residents with community activities, appointments, recreation, and social activities.
- Encourage independence and participation in household and community activities.
- Follow each resident’s Person-Centered Support Plan, Implementation Plan, Behavior Plan, and other applicable care instructions.
- Observe and document changes in a resident’s behavior, health, condition, or level of functioning and report concerns to management.
- Complete daily documentation, progress notes, medication records, incident documentation, and other required records accurately and timely.
- Maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable residential environment.
- Assist with light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and other household responsibilities.
- Follow emergency procedures, evacuation procedures, infection-control practices, and safety protocols.
- Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and privacy requirements.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation in accordance with Florida law, APD requirements, and Impact Central Florida policies.
- Follow all applicable Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) requirements, policies, procedures, training standards, and documentation requirements.
- Perform other resident-support duties as assigned and appropriate to the position.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Candidates must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Possess a high school diploma/GED or meet applicable APD provider qualifications for the position.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, coworkers, and management.
- Be dependable and able to report to scheduled shifts on time.
- Demonstrate patience, professionalism, compassion, and respect when working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Be able to perform the physical duties associated with providing direct personal care.
- Complete all required orientation and training before independently performing duties that require specific training or certification.
Background Screening Requirement
All candidates must successfully complete and maintain eligibility under the applicable Florida Level 2 background screening requirements before employment/rostered service, as required for APD providers.
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all required background screening and eligibility requirements.
Required Training
Employees must complete and maintain all training required for their assigned duties and position, which may include:
- APD Required Training
- Zero Tolerance
- Direct Care Core Competencies
- HIPAA/Confidentiality
- Health and Safety
- CPR and First Aid
- Medication Administration, when applicable to assigned duties
- Emergency and Evacuation Procedures
- Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation Reporting
- Individual-specific training as required by the resident’s support or behavior plan
- Any additional training required by APD or Impact Central Florida for the position
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a PCA, CNA, NA, HHA, Direct Support Professional (DSP), caregiver, residential staff member, or direct-care worker is preferred.
Experience working with adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
