We are a growing, patient-focused plastic surgery practice in Huntington Beach dedicated to providing exceptional cosmetic and reconstructive care. We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant with Surgical Coordinator experience who is organized, compassionate, and thrives in a fast-paced, clinical environment.
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant/Surgical Coordinator plays a vital role in both clinical patient care and surgical scheduling. This individual will assist the physician during clinic visits while ensuring the hospital or surgery center receive all required paperwork sent over prior to surgery date.
Responsibilities
Medical Assistant Duties
- Room patients and obtain medical histories and vital signs.
- Prepare patients for examinations and minor procedures.
- Assist the physician during an in-office procedure.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR).
- Perform sterile instrument preparation and maintain exam rooms.
- Assist with
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.
Surgical Coordinator Duties
- Obtain and verify medical clearances, laboratory results, EKGs, imaging, and specialist consultations prior to surgery.
- Fax/email clearances, lab results and H&P to hospital or surgery center prior to surgery date
- Communicate with patients throughout the surgical process and answer questions promptly.
- Ensure all pre-operative testing is completed within required timeframes.
- Schedule all pre-operative, post-operative, and follow-up appointments.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and ensure all surgical documentation is complete and accurately filed in the EMR.
- Support clinic operations by assisting with patient care and physician needs when not actively coordinating surgical cases
- Maintain surgery calendars and ensure all required documents are sent over prior to surgery
Phone & Communication Responsibilities
- Schedule new patient appointments, follow-up visits, in office procedures and post-operative appointments
- Check patients in and out while ensuring all required forms are completed.
- Collect copays
- Handle incoming and outgoing email, faxes, and electronic correspondence.
- Return patient voicemail messages promptly and document all communications in the EMR.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience (plastic surgery, dermatology, or surgical specialty preferred).
- Previous Surgical Coordinator experience preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
