About the Role
The Counter Sales Representative is the face of General Welding Supply, serving walk-in customers, processing orders, and providing expert guidance on welding products, industrial gases, and related equipment. This is a full-time position requiring flexibility to work at both our Westbury and Holbrook locations, including Saturdays.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist walk-in customers with professionalism and product expertise
- Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate welding supplies, gases, equipment, and accessories
- Process customer orders accurately, including sales transactions and cylinder exchanges
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of product inventory, pricing, and promotions
- Actively pursue sales opportunities to meet and exceed individual sales targets
- Coordinate with warehouse staff to ensure timely order fulfillment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked counter and showroom area
- Handle customer inquiries, returns, and account questions courteously and efficiently
Qualifications
- Prior experience in counter sales, industrial distribution, or a related field preferred
- Knowledge of welding products, industrial gases, or related equipment is a strong plus
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to learn product lines quickly and translate technical knowledge into helpful customer recommendations
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule including Saturdays
- Ability and willingness to commute between Westbury and Holbrook locations
- Basic computer proficiency for order entry and inventory systems
- Physical ability to handle and move cylinders and supplies as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent required
