Overview
New Heights Academy Charter School seeks an exceptional, student centered educator to serve as a Long Term Maternity Leave AP Psychology Teacher. The ideal candidate is passionate about psychology, committed to academic excellence, and skilled at preparing students for success on the Advanced Placement Psychology Exam while creating engaging and culturally responsive learning experiences.
The teacher will foster critical thinking, analytical writing, and discussion based instruction that connects psychological theories and research to students' lived experiences.
Primary Responsibilities
Instruction
- Teach Advanced Placement Psychology aligned to the College Board AP Psychology framework.
- Deliver rigorous, standards aligned lesson plans that promote deep conceptual understanding.
- Utilize data to inform instruction and differentiate learning for diverse student needs.
- Prepare students for success on the AP Psychology Exam through intentional review, practice assessments, and targeted interventions.
- Incorporate evidence based instructional strategies and student centered learning experiences.
- Maintain a classroom culture of high expectations, respect, and academic excellence.
- Design formative and summative assessments aligned to course objectives.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification (preferably)
- Experience teaching high school social studies or psychology.
- Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Master's degree.
- Experience teaching Advanced Placement Psychology.
- Demonstrated success preparing students for AP examinations.
- Experience working in urban schools and with culturally diverse student populations.
- Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, and data driven instruction.

Pay: $67,165.39 - $80,887.35 per year
