COMMUNICATION COMPETENCIES

Effectively communicates with supervisors, employees, departments, contractors, engineers, companies, vendors, outside agencies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to the profession.

Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding maintenance and repair.

Ability to effectively interact with coworkers, supervisors, other department staff, the public, and outside agencies.

Ability to operate necessary tools and machinery for maintenance work.

Knowledge of irrigation systems and their repairs.

Knowledge of landscaping maintenance procedures and processes.

Knowledge of operations and maintenance related to trees and palms.

Ability to understand and follow applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, as well as departmental safety practices and procedures.

Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse environmental conditions.

Ability and skill in operating a backhoe, bobcat/skid steer, bucket truck, ditch witch, dump truck, forklift, front-end loader, and stump grinder.

Ability to work as a member of a team or individually on assigned projects; complete assigned duties productively and efficiently.

Knowledge of basic safety rules and the ability to enforce applicable rules and regulations.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involves some combination of stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, bright/dim light, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
