Job Summary
A successful candidate will be joining a group of process chemistry scientists with broad deliverables ranging from the design of manufacturing routes for drug candidates to driving innovative solutions to complex chemistry problems in the development phase of small molecule pipeline. This position requires the design and execution of independent research that supports process R&D projects and goals. The Senior Scientist is primarily responsible for performing and managing scientific, technical, and technology activities, which may also include responsibility for the management of scientific staff on an as needed basis. A Ph.D. in chemistry with experience in synthetic methodology, total synthesis, or physical organic chemistry along with a proven track record of solving complex problems is required. Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Principal Duties
1.Independently propose, direct and perform synthetic organic chemistry experiments with a predefined project goal including developing new methodologies, protocols and procedures; Keep abreast of relevant literature and maintain a high level of expertise in own field; Protect intellectual properties through new patent applications.
2.Develop an understanding of R&D team goals and work effectively toward achieving them in a multidisciplinary team environment; Either assumes responsibility for projects when assigned or demonstrate leadership initiative in technical expertise areas to advance projects towards key milestones, as per requirement.
3.Acquire knowledge of and assist in implementing new technologies; Ensure integration of new technologies and initiatives into daily work to enhance productivity.
4.Effectively communicate own and/or team’s work with team’s permission and deliver project updates to senior level management clearly in oral and written forms in the context of project goals.
5.Responsible for lab/group operation including coaching, mentoring, training, supervising and developing staff when assigned; Participate in recruiting when needed.
6.Develop and maintain visibility through presentations and publications; Take the lead in publications and patents when needed.
7.Contribute to Administration when needed; Demonstrate fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technologies, external collaborations, and travel may be required.
8.Comply with all regulations and policies; Perform all work in a safe manner; Maintain proper records (notebooks, batch sheets, etc.) per relevant standard operating procedures including environmental and safety, and compliance.
Job Qualifications
Ph.D. Degree or equivalent (e.g., Master’s Degree with 5+ years of experience) in synthetic organic chemistry
Post doctoral or pharmaceutical/chemical industry in process chemistry experience is a plus
Demonstrated broad knowledge of organic chemistry and the ability to independently design and optimize organic reactions, and ability to evaluate and interpret data
Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written forms in inter-disciplinary environments
Must be able to work in a team environment, provide training and guidance to laboratory personnel
