Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Poet and Storyteller Teaching Artist to inspire creativity and self-expression with Los Angeles public high school students as part of Greenway Arts Alliance's GreenwayREADS program. In this role, you will engage students with curriculum that combines poetry, storytelling, and performance to connect with students and inspire them to read and to write their own stories and poetry. Classes will be held at various Los Angeles schools and will conclude with students attending a live performance at the Greenway Court Theatre on the campus of Fairfax High School. 1-hour sessions will be held in a variety of classes/schools from September 14 through October 9th during the school day, 1-3 days per week. Schedule somewhat flexible. Livescan required.
This project offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on public high school students by sharing the transformative power of words and stories.

Responsibilities
- Implement a creative style that integrates poetry, storytelling, and theatre
- Lead interactive workshops/classes focused on developing students’ artistic skills in writing and performance
- Manage classroom environments effectively by establishing positive behavior management strategies and fostering inclusive spaces for self-expression
- Adapt lesson plans to meet the unique needs of high school students at all reading levels
- Collaborate with community partners and other educators to create cohesive programming that promotes arts education across diverse settings
Experience
- Background in spoken word poetry/theater performance
- Experience in developing and implementing dynamic curriculum that encourages creative exploration through poetry and storytelling
- 3 years of experience working as a teaching artist in a diverse public high school environment
- Strong classroom management skills combined with knowledge of behavior management techniques
Pay: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour
