Job Overview
We are seeking energetic and dependable Grassroots Associates to conduct door to door canvassing and community surveys throughout the Louisville area.
This is a paid, in person field position primarily focused on walking assigned neighborhoods, knocking on doors, speaking face to face with community members, and recording their responses to survey questions.
Grassroots Associates help gather meaningful information about the issues people care about through respectful, conversational interactions. If you enjoy meeting new people, working independently, being outdoors, and getting involved in your community, this position offers flexible and meaningful part time work.
No previous canvassing experience is required. Training is provided.
Responsibilities
- Conduct door to door canvassing in assigned Louisville neighborhoods
- Ask community members survey questions and accurately record their responses
- Engage in respectful, conversational face to face communication
- Listen to residents and gather feedback about issues important to their communities
- Use a mobile device to access assigned areas and record survey information
- Follow assigned canvassing routes and complete outreach goals
- Maintain accurate activity and survey data while working in the field
- Communicate regularly with field leadership regarding progress and questions
- Represent Canvass America professionally and respectfully in the community
- Follow all training, safety, and field procedures while canvassing
Requirements
- Comfortable knocking on doors and starting conversations with people you have not previously met
- Strong face to face communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable, self motivated, and able to work independently
- Comfortable walking extensively throughout assigned neighborhoods
- Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable using a smartphone or mobile device while working in the field
- Able to accurately record survey responses and other required information
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Reliable transportation to and from assigned work areas
- Previous canvassing, customer service, sales, hospitality, community outreach, or survey experience is helpful but not required
What the Job Looks Like
This is an active, outdoor position rather than a traditional office job.
Most of your shift will be spent walking door to door in an assigned neighborhood, speaking directly with residents, asking survey questions, listening to their responses, and recording information on a mobile device.
Canvassers work on foot while going door to door.
Safety is a priority. Canvassers are instructed to leave an area if they feel unsafe and avoid properties with hazards such as dogs in the yard or No Trespassing signs.
Pay and Schedule
Starting Pay: $23 per hour
Additional Compensation: Performance bonuses
Schedule: Flexible, part time hours
