ABOUT FATHOM ROBOTICS & ROLE OVERVIEW
Fathom Robotics provides operations, maintenance, integration, and RDT&E engineering services for unmanned maritime systems supporting U.S. Government and commercial defense programs. We're hiring a Field Service Engineer to be our on-site technical lead at test ranges and naval facilities, where our systems get evaluated and fielded alongside government teams and end users.
Location: Field-based, CONUS and OCONUS travel required. Home basing flexible near a major airport; periodic time at Fathom's DFW, TX facility.
Work Type: Full-Time
Travel: Regular. Multi-day deployments to naval facilities and government test ranges across the country and overseas, scheduled in advance around a planned event calendar.
Clearance: US Person required. Active Secret minimum; TS/SCI eligibility strongly preferred.
What you'll do
- Deploy to test ranges and naval facilities as our on-site engineer for unmanned systems events
- Diagnose and repair systems during live evaluations: navigation, controls, and vehicle management
- Troubleshoot RF, SATCOM, and MANET communication link issues in the field
- Integrate and configure payloads, and stand up systems on-site before and during events
- Explain technical findings clearly to end users and government evaluators
- Own payload integration from design through installation, bench testing, and fielding
- Build supporting hardware as needed: sensor mounts, wiring harnesses, power interfaces
- Write up integration work, test results, and field findings in technical reports
What we're looking for
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Field engineering or field service experience: fixing complex electromechanical systems on-site
- Hands-on experience integrating sensors or payloads on drones, robots, or unmanned platforms
- Working knowledge of RF, SATCOM, or MANET networking, and comfortable troubleshooting link issues
- Solid hands-on electronics skills: soldering, wiring, bench troubleshooting
- Able to explain technical issues to non-technical and military end users
- Comfortable traveling regularly for planned field events, including some international trips
- U.S. Person, able to obtain a Secret clearance (TS/SCI eligibility a plus)
Nice to have
- Prior field support for DoW test, evaluation, or fielding events
- Prior military service, especially maritime, technical, or special operations support
- USCG license or hands-on boat and on-water experience
- Experience with Silvus, Persistent Systems, or similar MANET radios
- Starlink, Starshield, or other SATCOM integration experience
- Experience supporting warfighter or end-user training
- CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar)
- RoboSub, AUVSI, or similar autonomous systems background
Travel
Travel is a real part of this job: multi-day trips to ranges and naval sites around the country, plus some international. It's planned around a known event calendar, so trips are scheduled ahead, not sprung on you. If you like being where the hardware actually operates, this is the role.
