SDM Co. is seeking a skilled Welder / Shop Tech to handle both welding and mechanical repairs on heavy mining, construction, and diesel equipment. This position requires someone who can lay down high-quality welds and confidently diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Duties & Responsibilities

Perform FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding on heavy equipment and structural components

Fabricate and repair cracked frames, buckets, booms, and attachments

Perform line boring and build-up repairs when required

Read and interpret blueprints and repair procedures

Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems

Perform component removal and installation (pumps, cylinders, undercarriage, etc.)

Conduct preventive maintenance and field repairs as needed

Troubleshoot system failures and recommend repair solutions

Complete accurate work orders and service documentation

Maintain a safe, clean work environment

Communicate clearly with supervisors and customers

Own and maintain required personal tools

Experience in heavy equipment welding and mechanical repair

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Proficiency in reading schematics and technical drawings

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Welding certifications preferred (FCAW, SMAW, GTAW)

Commitment to safety and doing the job right the first time

Lift up to 50 lbs
- Work in shop and field environments

Stand, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces

Tolerate outdoor weather conditions when required
