TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR
Position Overview
The Technology Director is responsible for directing, supervising, coordinating all applications, infrastructure, security, networks, wifi, and phone services, technology training, and communications, and assisting the staff with data management.
Work Environment and Schedule
The Technology Director will work on the school site, interacting with staff, students, and administrators. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for system upgrades or urgent technical issues. Work day is 5 hours with a 15 minute break and 30 minute unpaid lunch. Hours are 8:00 - 1:30
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technology Strategy and Leadership
- Collaborate with District leadership and staff to integrate technology into the curriculum.
- Research and recommend new technology tools, software, and platforms that support innovative teaching and learning practices.
- Work with administration to develop the technology budget, including purchasing hardware, software, licenses, and other technology-related resources.
Information Technology (IT) Systems and Infrastructure
- Oversee the maintenance and optimization of all hardware, software, and network systems, ensuring reliable and secure access to technology resources.
- Ensure data privacy and cybersecurity protocols are up to date, legally compliant, and effectively implemented to protect sensitive information.
- Maintain an up to date recess/dismissal bell schedule and program.
- Maintain the security cameras and software.
- Manage an inventory database for all technology equipment.
Student Information and Data Systems
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the student information system (Aeries) and the statewide student data system (CalPADS).
- Ensure that staff are properly trained in the use of the SIS, gradebook, and report card programs, and follow data entry protocols.
- Troubleshoot any issues with the SIS and collaborate with the system provider to implement updates or changes as needed.
- Work with the business manager to ensure accurate student data reporting.
National School Lunch Program Software
- Oversee the implementation and management of cafeteria software systems, ensuring smooth operations of meal programs and accurate tracking of student meal data.
- Coordinate with the cafeteria team to ensure hardware, such as point-of-sale systems, is fully functional and integrated with the school's systems for billing and reporting.
- Provide training and support for staff using cafeteria management software.
Digital Presence
- Oversee the maintenance of the school’s website to provide accurate, timely, and user-friendly information to educational partners regarding events, announcements, and important school information.
- Regularly update the District’s digital marquee
Student Software Program Management
- Oversee and manage all user accounts and programming for student software programs, including Google Workspace, IXL, Clever, Amplify, and other educational software platforms used for instruction and student assessment.
- Ensure that all software is properly integrated with the school’s systems and accessible to teachers and students.
- Provide training and support for teachers and students to ensure effective use of these programs in the classroom.
- Provide direct support to staff, students, and families in troubleshooting technology issues and using tools such as Aeries, Parent Square, and other curriculum-based software.
CAASPP Testing Coordination
- Working with administration, facilitate the full and successful implementation of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing process.
- Set up testing platforms and ensure that teachers and students have access to the necessary technology.
- Ensure that test results are uploaded to parent portals on Aeries.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The Technology Director should have knowledge of
- Current computer, mobile devices, and telecommunications systems, hardware, software, and related technology, including virtualization and cloud connectivity;
- Mac and Windows Server and AD infrastructure;
- Knowledge and/or experience with Google for Education management, including email, calendar, Drive and other Google applications;
- Relevant federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations;
- Current trends in informational technology and education technology;
- Advanced concepts and principles of local area and wide area networks and protocols;
- Preventive maintenance principles, policies, and programs related to higher-end technology equipment;
- Effective techniques for assessing and analyzing user needs and recommending hardware/software solutions, as well as installation, repair, and upgrading techniques.
The Technology Director should have the ability to:
- Assess current and future computer, telephone, and VOIP resource needs;
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to finding solutions and work to remove barriers for the use of technology;
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Manage multiple operating systems on same network, e.g. Windows, Apple, and Google;
- Work well with others.
Certification (desirable/willing to obtain):
- Related Four year or Associates degree preferred
- Google for Education (GAFE) certification
- Experience in managing or supervising a similarly sized network in an education or public service environment
- Certified Network Engineer
- Experience with Ruckus Wireless, phone systems, and Chromebook management.
