After School Sports Coach
Compensation: $25-$30/hour

SUMMARY
Active Learning is seeking experienced and energetic Sports Coaches to lead physical activity programming for students in grades middle school within Fullerton School District’s After School Programs.
We are specifically looking for individuals with a background in coaching (youth sports leagues, club teams, or organized athletics) who understand how to teach fundamentals, manage groups, and create structured, engaging practices.
This role is ideal for coaches who are passionate about developing young athletes, building confidence, and creating a positive team environment. Coaches are encouraged to bring their own drills, games, and coaching style to make programming fun, skill-based, and engaging for all students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan and lead structured sports activities and drills for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade
- Maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability to ensure program continuity
- Coach fundamental skills (e.g., passing, dribbling, teamwork, coordination) across a variety of sports
- Manage groups of up to 20 students with clear expectations, structure, and strong leadership presence
- Create a safe, inclusive, and high-energy environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence
- Adapt drills and activities to meet a wide range of ages, skill levels, and abilities
- Organize games, scrimmages, and structured play to reinforce skill development
- Ensure student safety at all times and follow all program and district safety procedures
- Build positive relationships with students and serve as a mentor and role model
- Communicate effectively with Program Leads and team members regarding student engagement and program needs
- Coordinate with school staff regarding schedules, space, and equipment use
- Maintain and organize all sports equipment and ensure materials are ready for daily use
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & REQUIREMENTS
- Experience coaching youth sports (recreational leagues, club teams, school teams) strongly preferred
- Background in athletics, kinesiology, physical education, or related field is a plus
- Strong understanding of sports fundamentals, drills, and game structure
- Ability to manage groups of children in an active, outdoor or gym-based environment
- Understanding of child development and how to coach different age groups (TK–6)
- Ability to balance fun and structure while maintaining control of a group
- Energetic, positive, and encouraging coaching style
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistent attendance
- Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment
- Self-directed and able to work independently
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must meet district requirements: 48 semester units / 60 quarter units OR pass a pre-employment test
Required:
- Must pass a background check
- TB test clearance (renewed every 4 years)
- CPR/First Aid In-Person Certification
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
