CNC Machine Operator (Drill Line)Job Summary
Lockport Steel is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented CNC Machine Operator to specialize in our drilling department. You will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC drilling machinery to precision-drill holes in structural steel components according to engineering blueprints and work orders. This role is essential to our production workflow, ensuring that all steel members meet exact project specifications before they move to final assembly or shipping.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Operate CNC drilling machines to process structural steel beams, plates, and angle iron to required specifications.
- Setup & Programming: Load programs, perform machine setups, and make minor offsets/adjustments to ensure hole locations and diameters are accurate.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret structural steel fabrication drawings and shop tickets to ensure proper hole patterns, sizes, and tolerances.
- Quality Control: Regularly inspect finished pieces using calipers, tape measures, and precision gauges to verify accuracy against blueprints.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform daily checks, top off coolant levels, clean chip conveyors, and perform routine maintenance to keep machinery running at peak efficiency.
- Production Efficiency: Meet daily production quotas while minimizing scrap and rework.
- Safety: Maintain a high standard of shop safety, including proper use of PPE and following all lockout/tagout procedures during setup or maintenance.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 1+ years of experience operating CNC machinery, specifically in a structural steel or metal fabrication environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficient at reading blueprints and shop fabrication drawings. Experience with drill lines (e.g., Peddinghaus, Ficep, or similar) is a major advantage.
- Precision: Ability to maintain tight tolerances and perform complex layout measurements accurately.
- Reliability: Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a high-output production team.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a typical industrial shop environment.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced steel fabrication facility.
- Requires wearing standard safety equipment (steel-toed boots, safety glasses, ear protection, and hard hat)
Pay: $25.82 - $31.09 per hour
Work Location: In person
