Responsibilities
- Assist registered nurses and physicians with patient assessments, vital signs, and basic medical procedures using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Records) management tools.
- Provide direct patient care including hygiene assistance, mobility support with Hoyer lifts, catheter care, and medication administration following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Monitor patient conditions closely, recognizing signs of deterioration or emergency situations, and communicate effectively with the healthcare team to ensure prompt response.
- Support patients with complex needs such as dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, memory care, behavioral health issues, and those requiring specialized attention like ICU or trauma center patients.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, ensure patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations, and assist with medical records management.
- Facilitate safe patient transfers using appropriate methods including patient transfer techniques and manual handling practices.
- Engage in patient service activities that promote comfort and well-being during long-term or short-term stays within hospital medicine or post-acute care settings.
Qualifications
- Valid CNA certification with current licensure; experience working in emergency medicine or Level I/II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with Epic is a plus.
- Experience in critical care environments including ICU, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or surgical units preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for safe patient care.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using proper lifting practices; physical stamina required for long shifts including night hours.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and caregivers while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines.
- Prior experience working with diverse populations including geriatric patients, individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities, and those requiring hospice or infectious disease care is advantageous.
